Running Deer Bushcraft

Running Deer is a not for profit Devon based charitable enterprise set up to support local people including those at risk of exclusion.
We provide access to training, volunteering, life skills opportunities and work experience in traditional and rural skills, bushcraft and survival skills, woodland management and forestry, and related activities.

Running Deer was established in 2011 out of an identified need to provide opportunities for children, young people and adults including those at risk of exclusion; and local people & communities living in isolated areas without easy access to employment or training.

We are very excited to be a part of the Powderham Food Festival and will be offering demonstrations and workshops:

  • Charcoal burning – with a few bags of excellent quality barbeque charcoal available for sale – made at Butterdon Wood, near Moretonhampstead;
  • Green woodworking with a chance for visitors to have a go on our shave horses and pole lathe using traditional tools and methods
  • Spoon carving workshops – make your own spoon from sycamore or hazel
  • Fire lighting – how to make fire without matches!
  • Cook your own bannock bread over the camp fire!
  • You will also be able to find out more about Running Deer and the work we do, including ways you can support us.
